Experience requirements vary from lots of years with big machines, to entry level with good
mechanical and electrical aptitude. In general technicians are required to -
install, test & service HVAC systems and related devices, which will require knowledge of -
building and AC system control sequences, single & three phase motors, controls & drives,
refrigeration cycle, compressors & heat transfer devices, air distribution and flow
measurement, and building codes for electrical, HVAC, plumbing, gas, fire and safety.
Computer literacy, and good written & verbal communications are required for all positions.
Additional job requirements and conditions include
overtime, evening and weekend work are often required
work requires climbing ladders and heavy lifting
work requires manual dexterity and use of power and hand tools
work requires ability to distinguish wire & cable colors
work is often outdoors, and occasionally requires exposure to electric shock hazards
