Save Money with Air Conditioning This Summer

About 40 to 50 percent of the total energy consumed in a home or office is used by the air conditioning system. So, the surefire way to reduce your energy bills is to cut down on the power consumed by the air conditioning unit. There are different techniques that you can use to save money with air conditioning, especially during the peak usage season this summer.

High lighting efficiency

The lighting fixtures play a major role in increasing the heat produced in the room. If the lights used in the room generate more heat, the air conditioning unit uses more energy to cool down the area. Counter this by using lights that have high lighting efficiency. Avoid using incandescent lights because they generate a lot of heat. Instead, use LED lights. These lights are called cool lights because they produce very low heat.

Programmable thermostats

Programmable thermostats can be programmed to adjust the temperature differently at different times of the day. For instance, the temperature can be set lower in the afternoons when the weather gets warm. During the morning and night, the temperature can be higher because the outside temperature is not very hot. This kind of adjustment reduces the load on the air conditioning unit and hence, reduces the energy consumed. Ultimately, you save money.

Zoning is the technique of setting different temperatures in different places in a space based on their usage pattern or location of the rooms. Rooms that are not used do not need air conditioning. So, based on these factors, divide the house into different zones and set the air conditioning temperatures accordingly. This can save you a lot of money.

Worn out air conditioning units consume more power to function. Similarly, if the filter is blocked with too much dust, the working efficiency is reduced and the power consumption increases. Blocked vents also increase power consumption. In order to avoid additional power consumption, it is important to get the air conditioning unit cleaned and maintained regularly.

Don’t turn the temperature too low

Always maintain the air conditioning unit at a moderate temperature that keeps you comfortable. Ensure that the temperature is not too low because the lower the temperature, more is the power consumed.

Before you begin using the air conditioning unit, read all the manufacturer’s instructions and follow them precisely. The right usage pattern is essential to reduce power consumed by the air conditioner.
